Blaze Destroys Fire Station, Apparatus in Treffurt, Germany

Among the five rigs destroyed by the blaze in the $3 million station was an engine less than a year old.

A Treffurt fire station was destroyed in a blaze early Monday.

The cause of the fire that also destroyed apparatus and gear remains under investigation.

Four years ago, the station was dedicated after Treffurt city officials invested $3 million to renovate it, according to FireWorld.at. 

Among the five rigs destroyed as an engine less than a year old. It leaves the volunteer fire brigade will struggle for operational readiness.

Just two months ago, a new fire station in Stadtallendorf (Marburg-Biedenkopf) was destroyed by fire.

In Treffurt, city administration and the fire brigade officers are already working on emergency plans to ensure fire protection. Support from neighboring fire departments and aid organizations will be crucial in the coming days and weeks.

Citizens are asked to keep calm and continue to dial the emergency number 1-1-2 if they need help.
